Clinical assessments: the diagnostic protocols, inside the record

Plaque indices, erosion risk, the TMJ and the aesthetic assessment are filled in on screen and dated on the record, so you can compare each check-up with the last. These are four diagnostic protocols in the OCLÜ dental software: microbiological analysis of oral hygiene, a physicochemical questionnaire on acid erosion risk, biomechanical TMJ analysis, and facial and dental aesthetic assessment.

What eats your time today in clinical assessments

Printed forms

Indices and questionnaires get filled in on paper and filed far from the medical history.

Arithmetic by hand

Working out plaque percentages and averages, or adding up a risk score, takes time at every check-up.

Nothing to compare

With no dated records there is no way to see whether hygiene or pain improved since the last check-up.

What Clinical assessments gives you in OCLÜ

Microbiological analysis

You choose what to record: O'Leary, the Silness & Löe plaque index, the Löe & Silness gingival index, bleeding on probing, Turesky, Tri Plaque ID, interdental hygiene, brushing technique and peri-implant hygiene.

Automatic averages

The percentages and averages of each index are calculated as you work tooth by tooth, and you finish with a hygiene summary and recommendations.

Physicochemical analysis

A questionnaire on acid erosion risk and salivary pH: diet, salivary flow, restorative history, periodontal response, general health and habits. The score returns low, moderate or high risk.

Biomechanical TMJ analysis

Range of movement, muscle palpation, joint status, presumptive diagnosis, recommended treatments and requested studies.

Aesthetic assessment

Facial reference lines, smile analysis and dental proportions. Every assessment stays in the patient's medical history, findings or no findings, so it is complete and at the next session you know where you are starting from.

Dated, on the record

Every assessment is saved with its date on the patient record, next to the odontogram and the periodontal chart.

How Clinical assessments works, in three steps

  1. You open the assessment

From the patient record you pick the analysis you are going to run.

  2. You enter the findings

You mark tooth by tooth, answer the questionnaire or record the palpation; the scores and averages come out on their own.

  3. You compare at the next check-up

Every assessment is dated and you open earlier ones to see how the patient has progressed.

Frequently asked questions about clinical assessments

Which clinical assessments does OCLÜ include?

Four: microbiological analysis of oral hygiene, physicochemical analysis of acid erosion risk, biomechanical TMJ analysis, and facial and dental aesthetic assessment. You open them from each patient's record.

Do they cost extra?

No, all four assessments are included for dental clinics, with no add-on.

What indices does the microbiological analysis have?

O'Leary, the Silness & Löe plaque index, the Löe & Silness gingival index, bleeding on probing, Turesky and Tri Plaque ID, plus the interdental hygiene, brushing technique and peri-implant hygiene assessments. At each check-up you choose which ones to record.

How is the physicochemical risk calculated?

By adding one point for each question that applies to the patient. At 7 points or more the risk is moderate, and at 15 or more it is high.
